Jharkhand News : In a shocking incident under the Tilaiya police station limits, unidentified fraudsters duped a woman and made away with gold jewellery worth several lakhs by posing as product promoters offering jewellery cleaning services.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening in Naresh Nagar. According to the victim’s family, a young man visited the residence of Satyajit Kumar alias Golu, claiming to be from a company promoting cleaning products. At the time, only Golu’s mother and his wife were at home.
The accused first demonstrated his cleaning chemicals on kitchen utensils to gain their trust. Impressed, the women agreed to let him clean their gold ornaments. Golu’s mother removed her gold earrings and placed them in a chemical-filled vessel as instructed. His wife later added Golu’s gold chain, a traditional wedding ornament (dholna), and her own earrings.
Soon after, another man arrived on a bike without a number plate. The conmen cleverly applied some of the chemical to the hands of the women and urged them to wash it off quickly. The moment they stepped inside to clean their hands, the two fraudsters fled the scene with the jewellery.
Realizing the theft, the women raised an alarm. Neighbours gathered and tried to locate the culprits but they had already escaped. Tilaiya police were informed and reached the spot to begin investigations.
A formal complaint was filed late at night. CCTV footage from nearby homes confirmed the entry and exit of the two suspects, and police are now using the footage to aid their investigation.
