Hemant Soren Appears in ED Summons Contempt Case, Granted Bail

Jharkhand News : Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren appeared before the MP-MLA Special Court in Ranchi on Saturday in connection with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons contempt case. After completing the necessary court procedures, he submitted two bail bonds of ₹7,000 each, following which the court granted him bail.

State Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan was also present during the hearing.

Earlier, the Jharkhand High Court had directed the Chief Minister to appear in person before the lower court and furnish bail bonds while hearing his plea seeking exemption from personal appearance. On December 4, the High Court lifted its interim stay and allowed the MP-MLA Special Court to proceed with the trial.

With bail granted, Chief Minister Soren has now been exempted from appearing physically in the next hearing. The court has permitted him to join future proceedings through video conferencing.

The ED had filed a complaint against the Chief Minister for not complying with the agency’s summons. The case is registered in the MP-MLA Court as Case No. 2/2024 and the hearing is currently underway.
