In Chaibasa, a constable shot himself with his service rifle and died on the spot

Jharkhand News : In a shocking incident, a Jharkhand Police havildar posted at Amour Police Station allegedly shot himself with his service rifle on Wednesday morning. The bullet passed through his neck, killing him instantly. The deceased has been identified as Alamnath Bhuiyan (55), a resident of Chaibasa.

The incident came to light when a police canteen staff member reached the havildar’s room with breakfast, as part of the daily routine. Finding the door open, he entered the room and saw Bhuiyan lying motionless on the floor. He immediately raised an alarm, following which police personnel rushed to the spot.

Senior officers rush to the spot

Upon receiving information, Amour police station in-charge Avdhesh Kumar reached the scene and informed senior officials. Baisi SDPO Office SDPO Jitendra Kumar Pandey, along with Rauta police station in-charge K.K. Saurabh and other officers, also arrived at the location. Bullet entry and exit marks were found on the havildar’s neck.

Considering the seriousness of the case, the room was sealed and a forensic team was called to examine the scene. The havildar’s service rifle (carbine) and an empty cartridge were recovered from the spot.

Posted five months ago

According to police officials, Alamnath Bhuiyan had been posted at Amour police station about five months ago. His wife had earlier been staying with him but had gone home for medical treatment due to illness. Police sources said Bhuiyan had spoken to his wife over the phone around 8 am on Wednesday, and everything appeared normal at that time.

The police have informed the deceased’s family members, who are on their way from Jharkhand to Purnia.

Prima facie suicide, probe underway

SDPO Jitendra Kumar Pandey said that prima facie the case appears to be suicide, as clear through-and-through bullet injuries were found on the neck. However, he added that the exact cause will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report and forensic examination are completed. All angles are being investigated to rule out any foul play.
