IndiGo Aircraft’s Tail Hits Runway During Landing at Ranchi Airport

Jharkhand News : A major accident was narrowly avoided at Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi on Friday evening when the rear portion of an IndiGo aircraft struck the runway during landing. The incident occurred at around 7:30 pm while the Bhubaneswar–Ranchi flight was making a hard landing.

According to airport officials, the aircraft was carrying around 70 passengers at the time of the incident. The sudden impact caused panic among passengers as the plane experienced a strong jolt. However, the pilot promptly regained control and safely completed the landing before taxiing the aircraft to the apron. No injuries were reported among passengers or crew members.

Post-landing inspection revealed damage to the tail section of the aircraft. Engineers conducting the preliminary technical assessment declared the aircraft unfit for further operations. In view of passenger safety, the Ranchi airport authorities grounded the aircraft with immediate effect.

Ranchi Airport Director Vinod Kumar confirmed the incident, stating that the aircraft’s tail had touched the runway during landing, causing a sudden jolt inside the cabin. He assured that all passengers were safe and unharmed.

Following the incident, IndiGo’s scheduled return flight from Ranchi to Bhubaneswar was cancelled. As a result, several passengers had to cancel or reschedule their travel plans, while some were transported to Bhubaneswar via road.
