World News : Kuwait City witnessed a dramatic security incident on Wednesday when drones targeted Kuwait International Airport, causing a massive fire at the airport’s fuel storage tanks. Thankfully, no casualties have been reported so far.
According to a report shared by Gulf News from its Dubai office, Abdullah Al Rajhi, an official spokesperson for the Civil Aviation Authority, confirmed that the drone attack was carried out by Iran and its allied armed groups. He described the incident as a “direct assault” on the airport’s infrastructure.
The drones specifically targeted the fuel tanks managed by Kuwait Aviation Fuel Company, igniting a fierce blaze. Emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to contain the fire and prevent further damage. Initial reports indicate that the destruction was limited to property, and airport operations were not significantly disrupted.
Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage to the fuel storage facilities and investigating the security breach that allowed the drones to reach such a critical location. The incident highlights rising regional tensions and the growing use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in attacks on critical infrastructure.
While the airport resumed limited operations after ensuring safety protocols, aviation officials have urged airlines and travelers to remain vigilant as investigations continue.
This attack underscores the strategic risks faced by Gulf nations amid escalating conflicts involving Iran and its regional allies. Experts warn that drone technology, increasingly used in targeted strikes, poses a significant threat to vital civil and commercial infrastructure in the region.
The Civil Aviation Authority has pledged to strengthen security measures at all major airports in Kuwait to prevent similar incidents in the future.
