Jharkhand News : Taking serious note of the frequent absence of doctors and medical staff in government hospitals, the Health Department of Jharkhand has initiated major action. The department has issued show-cause notices to 9,547 doctors and nursing staff across the state.
Action Based on Biometric Attendance
According to the Health Department, the notices were sent to doctors and staff who were not regularly attending their duties in hospitals. The action was taken after analyzing biometric attendance records.
4,468 Staff Had Zero Attendance
Data from the department revealed that 4,468 doctors and medical staff had no biometric attendance recorded for the entire month of January.
Additionally, 579 staff members were found to have attendance of less than 50 percent.
Civil Surgeons Asked to Seek Explanation
Additional Secretary of the Health Department Vidyanand Sharma Pankaj has written to civil surgeons of all districts and managements of medical colleges, directing them to seek explanations from doctors and nursing staff who were absent from duty.
Questions Raised Over Hospital Functioning
Departmental figures show that in January only 24 percent of doctors and 31 percent of medical staff recorded attendance of 75 percent or more, raising concerns about the functioning of government hospitals.
The Additional Secretary has also asked civil surgeons why action was not taken earlier despite such large-scale absenteeism. District authorities have been instructed to fix accountability in the matter.
