Jharkhand News : The Jharkhand Assembly on Tuesday passed five significant bills amid minor opposition protests. Among them, the Jharkhand State Universities Bill 2025 grants the Chief Minister the power to appoint Vice-Chancellors (VCs), Pro-Vice-Chancellors, Registrars, Examination Controllers, and Finance Advisors of state universities. Decisions regarding faculty recruitment and promotions in universities and colleges will now be under the state government’s jurisdiction. Additionally, the Pro-VC or the Higher and Technical Education Minister will chair the university senate, which will convene twice annually.
The Jharkhand Professional Educational Institutions (Fee Regulation) Bill 2025 was also passed, introducing a regulatory framework to control arbitrary fees in private vocational institutions. A Fee Regulation Committee will oversee fee structures and address student grievances.
To monitor coaching centers, the Jharkhand Coaching Centers (Control and Regulation) Bill 2025 was enacted, establishing state and district-level regulatory authorities and mandatory registration for coaching centers, students, teachers, and mental health counselors. Registered counselors will provide career guidance and psychological support.
The Jharkhand Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (Special Exemption) Bill 2025 aims to provide MSMEs exemptions from approvals and inspections, promoting entrepreneurship and inclusive economic growth.
Lastly, the Jharkhand Platform-Based Gig Workers (Registration & Welfare) Bill 2025 introduces a regulatory framework ensuring decent work conditions, minimum wages, social security, and registration for gig workers, including freelancers, online platform workers, contract workers, and temporary employees.
