Jharkhand News : In a major boost to girls’ education, the Jharkhand government has announced financial assistance of ₹30,000 per year for eligible female students pursuing higher education. The initiative will be implemented through the Azim Premji Scholarship Scheme, run by the Azim Premji Foundation, with support from the state’s Higher and Technical Education Department, Jharkhand.
The Directorate of Higher Education has issued detailed guidelines to all universities in the state for smooth implementation of the scheme. Sudhir Bara, Director of Higher Education, has written to registrars of all universities, directing them to ensure that eligible girl students are enrolled under the scholarship.
Who Is Eligible for the Scholarship
The scholarship is meant for girls from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who have:
-
Passed Class 10 and Class 12 from government schools, and
-
Taken admission in the first year of a recognised undergraduate (UG) or diploma course in the academic session 2025–26.
Amount and Duration of Assistance
Under the scheme, selected students will receive ₹30,000 annually. The amount can be used for tuition fees, books, hostel charges, or other education-related expenses. Importantly, the financial support will continue for the entire duration of the course, subject to eligibility conditions being met each year.
Aim of the Scheme
The objective of the scholarship is to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder higher education for girls, especially those from poor and marginalised families. The Jharkhand government believes the scheme will help reduce dropout rates, promote girls’ participation in higher education, and strengthen women empowerment in the state.
Universities have been instructed to identify eligible students promptly and complete the necessary procedures so that beneficiaries can receive the scholarship without delay.
