Jharkhand H1N1 Alert: 36 Cases Reported in 30 Days, Health Dept on Alert

Jharkhand News : The risk of flu and viral infections has increased in Jharkhand during the rainy season. Meanwhile, 36 cases of swine flu, or H1N1, have been reported across the state in the past 30 days. Following the reported cases, the health department has stepped up its preparedness. Doctors have advised people not to panic but to take necessary precautions.

Dr Pradeep Bhattacharya, Head of the Critical Care Department at RIMS, said swine flu is caused by the influenza virus. Cases of the H1N1 strain are currently being reported in the state. He said H1N1 is not a new virus.

Elderly and Patients With Existing Illnesses at Higher Risk

According to Dr Pradeep Bhattacharya, elderly people and those already suffering from other illnesses may face a higher risk from H1N1 infection. Patients with cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure need to take extra precautions.

People taking corticosteroid medicines and those with weak immunity should also remain cautious to protect themselves from infection. Those who have not taken the H1N1 vaccine have also been advised to take precautions.

Infected People Advised to Stay Isolated

If someone in a household contracts H1N1, they should be kept in a separate room away from other family members, doctors have advised. The infected person should wear a mask, while other family members should also take precautions to prevent infection.

Doctors have advised patients to get adequate rest and have a normal nutritious diet. Warm food, soup and sufficient fluids may provide relief. Doctors have also advised caution regarding cold foods and drinks.

Dr Bhattacharya said it would not be correct to attribute the increase in H1N1 infections only to the consumption of cold items. He stressed the importance of following medical advice and maintaining cleanliness to prevent infection.

RIMS Arranges Treatment and Isolation Facilities

In view of the cases, RIMS has made arrangements for the treatment and isolation of patients. According to the hospital’s Additional Medical Superintendent, necessary precautions are being taken at the hospital.

A special team of doctors has also been kept ready to deal with the situation.

Seek Medical Advice if Symptoms Appear

Doctors said there is no need for people to panic over the reported swine flu cases. However, anyone experiencing persistent fever, cough, sore throat, breathing difficulty or flu-like symptoms should consult a doctor.

Elderly people and those with existing illnesses should seek immediate medical attention if their symptoms become severe.
