- Farmers’ body demands withdrawal of land bank policy and issuance of receipts for non-tenancy land.
Jharkhand News : The Jharkhand State Council of the Jharkhand Kisan Sabha on Thursday announced its participation in the nationwide ‘Jail Bharo’ (Fill the Jails) campaign on August 10, called by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), to protest what it described as anti-farmer policies of the Central and State governments.
The decision was taken during the General Body meeting of the organisation held at Ohdar Bhawan near Patel Chowk in Ramgarh. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Anwar Hussain, President of the Hazaribagh district unit of the Kisan Sabha, and attended by CPI Jharkhand State Secretary Mahendra Pathak.
Addressing the meeting, Pathak alleged that both the Centre and the Jharkhand government had failed to safeguard farmers’ interests. The organisation demanded the immediate withdrawal of the state’s land bank policy and the resumption of issuance of land receipts for non-tenancy (Gair Majrua) land, warning that a larger agitation would be launched if the demand was ignored.
The leaders also alleged that governments were facilitating the transfer of large tracts of land to corporate groups. Referring to the reported allocation of around 1,000 acres of land in Bihar’s Pirpainti to the Adani Group, they claimed that similar attempts were being made in Jharkhand to acquire land for corporate projects.
The meeting further alleged that in areas such as Barkagaon and Dadi block, land was being acquired for coal block projects without the consent of local residents and without implementing the provisions of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. The organisation said it would continue its agitation against such land acquisition.
Extending support to the ongoing student protests in Delhi and Ranchi, the Kisan Sabha said it would mobilise farmers across Jharkhand for the August 10 protest. According to the organisation, more than 100 locations have been identified across the state where farmers will court arrest as part of the nationwide campaign.
The meeting also resolved to intensify a statewide membership drive, organise block- and district-level conferences, and hold the Jharkhand State Conference in November 2026.
Among those present were Bhante Jainendra Tathagat, Devendra Thakur, Pritam Mehta, Praveen Kumar Mehta, Satyendra Kumar Mehta, Avinash Bedia, Dr. B.N. Ohdar, Mewa Lal Prasad, former Mukhiya Kamaluddin Ansari, Pochai Prasad, Qayyum Malik, Ghanenath Choudhary, Chitranjan Mahto, Aniruddh Kumar, Krishna Kumar Mehta, Prof. Anwar Hussain, Neman Yadav and several other farmer leaders.
