Jharkhand Police's ‘Operation Clean’: Tainted Station House Officers to Be Removed from Field Postings, DGP Seeks Reports

Jharkhand News : The Jharkhand Police Headquarters has launched a major initiative to strengthen grassroots policing and improve law-and-order management across the state. Under a new drive called “Operation Clean,” a list is being prepared of police station in-charges and officers facing serious allegations, departmental inquiries, or controversies. Such officers may soon be removed from field postings.

According to sources, the exercise is being directly monitored at the level of the Director General of Police (DGP). Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) from all districts have been asked to submit confidential reports on officers against whom complaints are pending or whose service records have been under scrutiny. The reports are currently being reviewed at the headquarters level.

Sources said that following recent meetings between the state government, the Home Department, and police officials, the police headquarters accelerated action in this direction. The objective is to ensure better policing at police stations and shift controversial officers from field duties to non-sensitive postings or police lines.

Officials at the headquarters said that screening is being conducted at three levels. Special attention is being given to Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors against whom cases are pending in courts, investigations by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), or departmental proceedings. Records of station house officers who have repeatedly faced complaints are also being examined.

The initiative is being seen as an important step toward improving the credibility of policing in Jharkhand and enhancing public trust in the police force. The department aims to place police stations under the leadership of officers with clean reputations, professionalism, and experience so that law and order can be maintained more effectively.
