Ranchi: Primary school teachers in Jharkhand may soon be able to apply online for transfers. The state education department has completed preparations for the transfer process, and the new online portal is expected to open after September 15.
Teachers will be required to submit their transfer applications through the portal. The new system is expected to benefit more than 48,000 government primary teachers in the state who have been waiting for the transfer facility for a long time.
Teachers May Apply Within and Outside Their Districts
Once the portal becomes operational, teachers are expected to be able to request transfers within their districts as well as to other districts.
Earlier, the proposed transfer facility was limited to applications within the same district. However, that portal was never launched. The education department has now developed a new transfer portal.
The decision is expected to benefit teachers seeking postings closer to their homes or in their preferred districts or schools.
Previous Transfer Portals Faced Technical Problems
The education department prepared online portals for transfer requests in 2019 and 2022. However, the portals reportedly failed to function properly during testing, and the transfer process could not be carried out.
Following these experiences, the department worked on developing a new system. The new transfer portal was ready in April, but it could not be launched because its security audit had not been completed.
According to departmental sources, the security audit process is now in its final stage. The portal is expected to open within the next 10 days, and the application process is likely to begin after September 15.
More Than 48,000 Government Teachers Expected to Benefit
Jharkhand has 21,179 primary schools, where around 64,000 government teachers are working. Of these, approximately 48,000 are government teachers, while the remaining workforce includes para-teachers and 10 assistant teachers.
The new transfer arrangement is expected to provide relief to teachers who have been waiting for the process for a long time. Teachers may get an opportunity to seek postings in their home districts, while applications may also be considered on the basis of family circumstances.
Submitting an application through the online portal will be mandatory.
Who May Get Priority?
The following categories are expected to receive priority in the transfer process:
- Teachers suffering from incurable illnesses.
- Cases where both husband and wife are government employees.
- Women teachers above the age of 50 years.
- Mutual transfer cases where the post and subject are the same.
