Jharkhand News : Security forces have achieved a major breakthrough in the ongoing anti-Maoist operations in Jharkhand with the arrest of Misir Besra alias Sagar Da, a Central Committee member of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) carrying a ₹10 million reward. Along with Besra, two active Maoist cadres and two other associates were also taken into custody. Police records show that 141 criminal cases are registered against him in Jharkhand.
Arrested While Attempting to Escape
According to officials, Misir Besra was trying to flee the Giridih-Dhanbad border region with four associates in a Tata Magic vehicle to evade an ongoing anti-Maoist operation. Acting on specific intelligence, security forces intercepted the vehicle near Barwa Adda in Dhanbad and arrested all five occupants.
Three AK-47 Rifles Recovered
The operation was carried out jointly by the Jharkhand Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) based on intelligence inputs. During the operation, security personnel recovered three AK-47 rifles from the vehicle.
Those arrested along with Besra include Regional Committee member Tumba Manjhi, Area Committee member Biren Hansda, and two other individuals identified as Mangal Murmu and Dinesh Rai.
Questioning Underway
Officials from central and state security agencies are currently interrogating the arrested individuals to gather further information about Maoist activities and the organization’s network.
Jharkhand Inspector General (Operations) Narendra Kumar Singh confirmed the arrests on Wednesday.
Long Among India’s Most Wanted Maoist Leaders
Misir Besra has long been regarded as one of the most wanted Maoist leaders in eastern India. He has been active across Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh, and is accused of involvement in numerous serious offences, including attacks on security forces, murder, extortion, and bomb blasts.
Security agencies believe his arrest will deal a significant blow to the Maoist insurgency in the region and strengthen ongoing counter-insurgency operations. Further investigation into the case is underway.
