Ranchi: Thousands of successful candidates have received continued relief in the JSSC-CGL recruitment case after the Jharkhand High Court maintained its stay on the state government’s decision to cancel the examination and related appointments. The court’s order means the cancellation decision is not currently operative against the affected employees.
The case concerns the state government’s August 18, 2026 notification cancelling several recruitment examinations amid allegations of irregularities. The affected candidates subsequently approached the Jharkhand High Court challenging the decision.
The matter was heard by Justice Deepak Roshan. The court had earlier stayed the cancellation of the JPSC 11th to 13th Civil Services examinations and the Child Development Project Officer examination on August 20. On August 21, it also stayed the cancellation of the JSSC-CGL recruitment examination, noting that the decision would affect more than 2,000 candidates who had already been appointed and were working in different government offices.
High Court Keeps Stay on Recruitment Cancellation
During the latest hearing on September 15, the High Court continued the stay on the government’s cancellation order. The state government had sought four weeks to file its response, but the court granted only 48 hours for submission of its status report. The state also submitted the CID investigation status report in a sealed cover.
The legal dispute follows protests over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). The government had cancelled several examinations following the controversy, while successful candidates argued that the cancellation adversely affected those who had cleared the examinations and secured appointments.
What Happened After the August 18 Decision?
The state government announced the cancellation of JSSC-CGL and other examinations following allegations of irregularities linked to examinations conducted by a third-party agency. The government also ordered investigations into recruitment examinations, while the CID has been probing the allegations.
Successful JSSC-CGL candidates later approached the High Court and obtained interim protection against the cancellation order. Candidates have continued to demand that the investigation be conducted fairly and that genuine candidates should not be adversely affected by allegations against others.
Current Status of JSSC-CGL Appointments
For now, the High Court’s stay means the August 18 cancellation order does not take effect against the appointments covered by the court’s interim protection. The final outcome will depend on further proceedings and the court’s eventual decision in the matter.
