Khunti’s Riya Kumari Selected for Jharkhand Under-19 Women’s Team

Jharkhand News : Riya Kumari, a promising woman cricketer from Khunti who has made her mark despite difficult circumstances, has been selected for the JSCA Jharkhand Under-19 Women’s State Team. The news of her selection has brought excitement among cricket players and sports enthusiasts across the district.

Riya will report at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi on September 2. The Jharkhand team will leave for Puducherry on September 3, where Riya will represent the state in the Under-19 Women’s Inter-State T20 Tournament, CKEM Trophy 2026, scheduled from September 5 to 15.

Overcoming Difficult Circumstances

Riya’s achievement is particularly significant as she developed her cricketing skills despite limited resources and family difficulties. She lost her father at a young age but did not give up and continued to work hard and train consistently.

A fast bowler, Riya has also shown strong performances in batting and fielding. Her agility and sharp fielding are considered important strengths for her team.

Coach Praises Her All-Round Ability

Coach Jeetu Kumar described Riya as a talented fast bowler and all-rounder. He said she has been continuously working to improve her game and has the potential to progress further.

Riya studied at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Bundu and is currently pursuing her graduation at PPK College, Bundu.

Practices at Sonet Cricket Club

Riya trains at Sonet Cricket Club in Bundu and represents the Khunti district cricket team. Her selection for the Jharkhand Under-19 Women’s team will now give her an opportunity to showcase her talent at the state level.
