Jharkhand News : One alleged criminal sustained a bullet injury while another was arrested during an encounter between police and suspected members of the Rahul Dubey gang near Bukru village under Keredari Police Station limits in Hazaribagh district early Friday morning.
Police also recovered a pistol and a motorcycle from the spot. Soon after receiving information about the encounter, Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police Aman Kumar and Barkagaon SDPO Amit Anand reached the scene to assess the situation.
According to police, they had received specific intelligence that members of the Rahul Dubey gang were planning a major crime to extort levy money from the Chandragupt Mines. Acting on the tip-off, teams from Keredari Police Station and Pagar Outpost jointly launched a search operation and laid a cordon near Bukru village.
As the police team approached, the suspects allegedly attempted to flee towards a nearby forest and opened fire on the personnel. In self-defence, police retaliated by firing two to three rounds.
During the exchange of fire, one of the alleged criminals suffered a bullet injury to his leg, while another was apprehended at the scene. The injured accused was initially taken to the Barkagaon Community Health Centre and later referred to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital, Hazaribagh, for advanced treatment.
Police said the suspects allegedly tried to discard a firearm while fleeing, which was later recovered and seized by the investigating team.
SP Aman Kumar said preliminary investigation suggests that both arrested individuals are associated with the Rahul Dubey gang and were allegedly planning a major criminal act for levy collection in the area.
He added that both accused are being interrogated to gather information about other gang members and the network’s activities. Police have launched raids to trace the remaining members of the gang.
According to police, one of the accused is a resident of the Keredari police station area, while the other belongs to the Barkagaon police station jurisdiction. Their identities have not yet been disclosed as the investigation is still underway.
