Operations Disrupted at RIMS RIO Due to AC Breakdown, FIR to Be Filed Against Agency

Doctor Collapses After Tea at RIMS, Placed on Ventilator; Probe Underway

Jharkhand News : Several eye and ENT surgeries at the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology (RIO) of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences were postponed after the air-conditioning system stopped functioning, causing inconvenience to patients. The RIMS administration has decided to take strict action against the agency responsible for operating the AC system.

According to the hospital administration, the responsibility for AC operations at RIO had been assigned to SUVIDHA SHINRYO PVT. LTD., which is also handling air-conditioning services in the Oncology and Super-Speciality Blocks. Officials stated that the process for issuing a fresh work order was underway and the agency had already been informed through email.

Despite this, the agency allegedly discontinued AC operations, affecting critical medical services and forcing the postponement of several scheduled surgeries.

Inspection Conducted

After receiving information about the issue, a team comprising the Medical Superintendent, Estate Officer, DMS-II, and Hospital Manager visited the site to assess the situation.

The inspection revealed that the Eye and ENT departments had recently been shifted to the RIO building, and the tender process for AC operations was still being completed, resulting in a temporary administrative delay.

Alternative Arrangements Made

To ensure that patient care is not affected further, the RIMS administration immediately arranged an alternative service provider. The agency currently handling AC operations at the Trauma Center has been assigned the responsibility of maintaining the AC system at RIO.

FIR to Be Registered

RIMS has also decided to lodge an FIR against the defaulting agency for allegedly disrupting essential healthcare services.

For better monitoring and management of RIO operations:

  • The Head of the Eye Department has been appointed as Centre Head.
  • Dr. Mukesh Kumar Neeraj (DMS-II) has been designated as Administrative Nodal Officer.
  • Hiramani Sisilia Kujur has been assigned as Nursing Nodal Officer.
  • Kritika Verma has been appointed as Hospital Manager.

The RIMS administration emphasized that it follows a zero-tolerance policy toward any agency or institution that hampers patient care and medical services, and strict action will be taken against those found responsible.
