Jharkhand News : The benefits of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) will now be extended strictly to genuinely needy families. Households that already own pucca houses, four-wheelers, or substantial property will no longer be eligible, as the government has intensified monitoring through satellite imagery and field verification.
On Monday, verification of families listed in the waiting list was carried out in Shahrpur Panchayat under Narayanpur block. The inspection team was led by Block Development Officer Devraj Gupta. During the inspection, several families were found to be ineligible under the exclusion criteria.
According to officials, many households included in the list were already living in permanent houses or had access to modern amenities, making them ineligible for the scheme. The BDO said the verification was conducted based on a list of suspected beneficiaries provided by the government, and several families were found to be above the poverty line.
He clarified that only families living in kutcha houses, with limited assets and no four-wheeler vehicles, will qualify for PMAY benefits. Families owning more than five acres of land will be disqualified under any circumstances.
Verification Drive Across Panchayats
The administration has made it clear that PMAY is meant exclusively for the poor and homeless. Verification will now be conducted in every panchayat, beginning with Shahrpur. In this panchayat alone, 145 families listed under the PMAY waiting list will be verified.
A dedicated inspection team has been formed, which includes junior engineers and other officials. Each household’s actual living conditions will be assessed before final approval of the beneficiary list.
Officials noted that some financially well-off families attempt to misuse government schemes through misrepresentation or fraudulent practices. Such actions will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The BDO emphasized that there will be no favoritism, recommendations, or external pressure in the approval process. At the same time, genuinely eligible families will not face any inconvenience and will certainly receive housing benefits under the scheme.
