Jharkhand News : In a step toward women’s empowerment and social development, Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PVUNL) organized a 35-day rope craft training program for 15 women from the Birhor tribe under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, in collaboration with the Swarnarekha Mahila Samiti (SMS).

The Birhor community is classified as a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) and has long remained outside the mainstream of development. Notably, this was the first formal skill-development training program for many of the participating women.
Training Concluded on March 7
The training program concluded successfully on March 7, 2026. During the closing ceremony, Mrs. Renu Sehgal, Chairperson of the Swarnarekha Mahila Samiti, encouraged the participants and appreciated their dedication and enthusiasm for learning.
She emphasized that skills like rope craft can help these women move toward self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.
Eco-Friendly Products and Economic Opportunities
During the program, the women learned to create various rope craft products. These handmade items are expected to improve their economic conditions while also promoting environmental sustainability, as the products are completely eco-friendly.
This initiative by PVUNL is considered an important step toward empowering tribal women, providing them with new livelihood opportunities and helping them become more independent.
