Sports News : Indian cricket legend Ravichandran Ashwin has announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL), marking the end of another glorious chapter in his career. The veteran spinner shared the news on his official X handle, leaving fans emotional. While Ashwin has stepped away from the IPL, he confirmed that he will continue to play in overseas T20 franchise leagues.

“A Special Beginning on a Special Day”

In his farewell note, Ashwin wrote: “Every end marks a new beginning. My journey as an IPL cricketer comes to an end today, but from here begins my time as an explorer in different leagues across the world.”

He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the BCCI, the IPL, and all the franchises he represented over 16 memorable years. “Thanks to all the teams, for the wonderful memories and bonds. Most importantly, thanks to IPL and BCCI for everything they gave me,” he wrote, adding that he now looks forward to enjoying the next chapter of his career.

IPL Journey

Ashwin began his IPL career in 2009 with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and played until 2025, featuring in 221 matches. Over the years, he represented five franchises — CSK, Rising Pune Supergiants, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals.

The off-spinner ended with 187 wickets and 833 runs, including a half-century. Fittingly, he started and ended his IPL journey with CSK.

Looking Ahead

Ashwin hinted at participating in international T20 leagues like the Big Bash League, The Hundred, and others — opportunities that required him to step away from the IPL.

Earlier Exit from International Cricket

This announcement comes after Ashwin had already retired from international cricket. He had revealed that frequent benching in matches was a key reason for his decision, saying he preferred spending time with family over sitting out.
