Ranchi Railway Station to Go World-Class With Airport-Style Facilities

Jharkhand News : The Ranchi Railway Station is set to undergo a major transformation and will soon emerge as a world-class railway station with facilities on par with international airports. The construction of the main station building is expected to be completed within one and a half years, while the remodeling of Hatia Railway Station and yard redevelopment work will be completed by 2027.

This information was shared by Karunanidhi, Divisional Railway Manager of the Ranchi Railway Division. He said that nearly 90% of the work on the second station building at the southern end of Ranchi station has been completed and is likely to become operational by March–April.

Airport-style amenities for passengers

The new main station building will be developed on the lines of modern railway stations in London and Germany, offering passengers airport-like convenience and comfort. Key features include:

  • Separate entry and exit gates to manage crowd flow

  • Modern parking facilities

  • Sleeping pods similar to airports

  • A 36-metre-long concourse connecting the north and south station buildings

During the redevelopment of the old station building, train operations will be shifted to the second station building to ensure uninterrupted services.

Yard remodeling and Hatia station upgrade

The first phase of yard remodeling at Ranchi station has already been completed. In the second phase, a yard capable of handling 24-coach trains will be developed, with work scheduled to begin this year. Remodeling work at Hatia station and its yard is progressing steadily and is targeted for completion by 2027.
