More News : Onions are a staple in Indian kitchens, but eating them raw in excess may not always be healthy. Doctors caution that compounds in onions can thin the blood, increasing the risk of excessive bleeding during injuries or surgeries. For people already on blood-thinning medication, this effect can intensify, leading to dangerous levels of blood loss.

Raw onions may also irritate the digestive system. Many people experience bloating, gas, acidity, and indigestion after consuming them. Those with gastric issues, ulcers, or acid reflux are at higher risk of discomfort. Additionally, onion allergies can cause skin rashes, itching, watery eyes, or sneezing in sensitive individuals.

Other side effects include bad breath, which is socially embarrassing, and fluctuating blood sugar levels in diabetes patients—posing risks for those on medication. Excessive intake may also negatively affect heart rate and blood pressure, despite onions being rich in antioxidants.

Experts suggest moderation instead of complete avoidance. Lightly roasting or cooking onions can reduce their sharpness and acidity. Consuming them with mint, fennel, or lemon water may also help reduce bad breath after eating raw onions.
