Jharkhand News : As many as 35,367 vehicles from Jharkhand have been found to have duplicate entries on the VAHAN Portal of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Government of India. The duplicate records reportedly contain repeated entries of the same vehicle number, chassis number and engine number, causing difficulties for vehicle owners in accessing online services.
Following the discovery, the Jharkhand Transport Department has written to Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police and District Transport Officers across the state, directing them to correct the duplicate entries.
More Than 75 Lakh Vehicle Records on VAHAN Portal
The VAHAN Portal contains digital records of vehicles registered across the country. State governments are required to upload detailed information about vehicles registered within their respective jurisdictions.
Jharkhand currently has digital records of 75,12,308 vehicles available on the portal. However, errors made by District Transport Offices while uploading data resulted in duplicate entries for 35,367 vehicles.
34,124 Duplicate Entries Linked to Interstate Vehicles
Of the total 35,367 duplicate vehicle records, 34,124 are related to interstate duplicate vehicles. The remaining 1,243 duplicate entries are linked to vehicles within Jharkhand.
The duplicate records were identified during a review of the VAHAN Portal. The information about these duplicate entries was shared by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, which directed the state to carry out the necessary corrections.
Transport Department Issues Directions for Data Correction
Following the Union ministry’s directions, the Jharkhand Transport Department has also issued instructions for corrective action. Officials have been directed to examine the duplicate records and ensure that errors in the vehicle data are rectified.
The duplicate entries have created problems for vehicle owners trying to access online services. The concerned authorities have now been asked to verify the records and correct the errors.
