Bihar News : Patna: In a major crackdown on illegal arms manufacturing, police have busted a mini gun factory operating out of the house of a village head (Mukhiya) in Bihar’s Jamui district. The late-night raid was conducted in Harakhar Panchayat under Khaira block, where police recovered a large cache of both semi-constructed and fully assembled firearms, along with equipment used in making weapons.

The police simultaneously raided three different locations linked to the illegal operation and arrested five individuals. The arrested have been identified as Mohd. Khurshid Alam and Mohd. Zaheer from Munger, Bismillah Ali and Mohammad Ghazi Ali from Kolkata, and Dharmveer Sahu, a resident of Ropabel in Jamui and nephew of the village chief, Munna Sahu.

The raid was led by Jamui DSP Satish Suman, who stated that the group had been involved in illegal arms manufacturing and trafficking for a long time. Preliminary investigations reveal that the weapons produced at this factory were being supplied to parts of West Bengal, indicating a cross-state criminal network.

What makes this case even more shocking is the direct involvement of elected local leadership. Munna Sahu, the village chief whose house was used as a base, has a known criminal background. His connection to the operation has raised serious concerns about the role of local power in facilitating organized crime.

Following leads from the arrested suspects, the police also raided the residence of one Guddu Singh in Kalyanpur, located near Jamui town. That search led to the seizure of more weapons and tools related to the gun manufacturing trade. Further raids were conducted in Ropabel village and a private residence in Garhi Bazaar, from where additional illegal firearms were recovered.

Heavy police deployment was ensured at all three sites, and the investigation is still ongoing with more raids expected. Security forces are combing through evidence to trace the full extent of the network.

Notably, this is not the first time such a factory has been discovered in the region. Back in 2023, a similar illegal arms unit was busted in Adsar village under the Jamui Town police station. The recurrence of such incidents points to a deeper, possibly entrenched illegal arms operation in the region.

Authorities are now expanding the probe to identify more members of the syndicate and trace the supply chain routes used to distribute the illegal firearms.
