48 Km Range ‘ATAGS’ Gun Puts India on Global Artillery Export Map

India News : India’s defence exports are rising sharply, and indigenous weapon systems are increasingly drawing global attention. Government data shows India’s defence exports touched a record ₹23,622 crore in FY 2024–25, reflecting a major jump compared to the past decade.

Among the headline systems is the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS)—a 155mm/52-calibre indigenous howitzer developed under the DRDO-led programme and built with strong private-sector participation. The system is designed to deliver longer ranges with modern ammunition and improved performance for the Indian Army’s artillery modernization plans.

India orders ATAGS worth ₹6,900 crore

The Ministry of Defence signed contracts worth around ₹6,900 crore for the procurement of 155mm/52-calibre ATAGS (along with gun towing vehicles), signalling large-scale induction into the Army.

Armenia deal boosts export interest

International interest has also grown. Reports indicate Armenia tested six ATAGS units supplied by India and later initiated the process to purchase 84 additional guns, with multiple defence publications reporting the deal value at around $155 million.

With exports expanding and major contracts underway, ATAGS is being seen as a key “Make in India” artillery platform gaining traction in overseas markets, alongside other Indian systems in the global defence space.
