errorist dead in Encounter in Kulgam’s Akhal Forest, Operation Continues

India News : A terrorist has been killed in an ongoing encounter between security forces and militants in the Akhal forest area of Kulgam district in South Kashmir. The gunbattle broke out late Friday and continued intermittently through the night, with heavy exchange of fire reported from the dense jungle terrain.

According to an official from the Indian Army, security personnel responded promptly to the militant fire and engaged in a well-coordinated counterattack, ultimately neutralizing one terrorist. The identity and affiliation of the deceased militant are yet to be confirmed.

In an early morning post on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army confirmed the operation and reported, “Intermittent and intense exchange of fire continued throughout the night. Alert troops responded with controlled fire while maintaining contact and tightening the cordon. One terrorist has been eliminated so far.”

The operation remains active, with additional forces on high alert to prevent any possible escape attempts or retaliatory fire. Troops have cordoned off the area and are conducting search and sanitization operations to clear the region of any remaining militants or threats.

This incident underscores the continued presence and movement of terrorists in the forested and remote areas of South Kashmir. Security forces have been intensifying operations in such zones following intelligence inputs about militant hideouts.

Earlier this year, similar encounters were reported in nearby districts of Anantnag and Shopian, as security agencies continue their anti-terror campaigns in the Valley. The latest engagement in Akhal is seen as part of a broader effort to disrupt terror networks in the region.

Authorities have advised residents to stay indoors and avoid the area while the operation is underway. No civilian casualties have been reported so far.
