More News – The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has issued a public advisory urging people to avoid using WhatsApp Web on office computers and laptops. While accessing personal chats and office files on the same device may seem convenient, the ministry warns it could expose sensitive information to your organisation.

According to the advisory, using WhatsApp Web on work devices can potentially give administrators and IT teams access to private conversations and personal files. This risk could arise from screen-monitoring software, malware, or browser hijacking.

The warning comes amid growing workplace cybersecurity concerns, with the Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) team highlighting the dangers of using messaging platforms on corporate devices. ISEA noted that many organisations now treat WhatsApp Web as a potential security risk, capable of delivering malware or enabling phishing attacks that could compromise entire networks.

The advisory also points out that using office Wi-Fi could give companies partial access to employees’ personal phones, putting private data at risk. Other dangers include possible data leaks if a laptop is hacked, and the interception of sensitive information over unsecured Wi-Fi networks.
