Three Killed, Two Injured After Being Hit by Vande Bharat Express in Purnia

Bihar News : In a tragic incident early Friday morning, three people lost their lives and two others were seriously injured after being hit by the Vande Bharat Express near Kusba Jabanpur on the Katihar-Jogbani rail section. The injured have been admitted to the Purnia Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

According to reports, the victims were returning after attending a Dussehra fair when the Jogbani-Danapur Vande Bharat Express struck them. This marks the second fatal incident involving this train, following a similar tragedy on September 30, when an elderly man was killed near the Hatiyagachhi railway crossing in Saharsa.

The train, which connects Jogbani (Araria) in the Seemanchal region to Danapur (Patna), is the first Vande Bharat Express serving this corridor. The train departs Jogbani at 3:25 AM, reaches Purnia at 4:50 AM, and travels via Saharsa, Khagaria, Samastipur, and Muzaffarpur, arriving in Danapur at 11:30 AM.

Soon after the accident, a large crowd gathered at the site, and local police along with Railway Protection Force (RPF) teams reached the scene to begin the investigation. The bodies have been taken into custody for post-mortem examinations.

Authorities are yet to confirm whether the victims were crossing the tracks or walking along them, but initial reports suggest negligence in observing safety precautions during early morning hours.

This tragic event has raised questions over pedestrian safety near railway tracks and public awareness about high-speed trains like the Vande Bharat Express.
