Cold Wave Intensifies in 10 Indian States, Fog and Rain Alerts Issued

Cold Wave Likely in Four Jharkhand Districts on November 10-11

India News : A severe cold wave has tightened its grip across nearly 10 states of India, increasing winter chill and disrupting daily life. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued alerts for dense fog and heavy rainfall in several regions. According to weather officials, minimum temperatures across the northwestern plains are expected to drop by up to 2°C over the next two days, intensifying cold conditions.

The northeastern states are expected to witness dense fog for the next 24 hours, affecting visibility and transportation. Meanwhile, Andaman and Nicobar Islands may experience thunderstorms accompanied by rain on December 9 and 10, along with strong winds blowing at 30–40 km/h.

Cold conditions continue to intensify in the Kashmir Valley, where temperatures have plunged below freezing in many locations. Pahalgam recorded a minimum temperature of minus 4.3°C, while snowfall is expected across higher-altitude regions within the next 24 hours.

According to IMD forecasts, cold wave conditions are likely to prevail from December 9 to 12 across Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Telangana, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, northern Rajasthan, central Maharashtra, and Marathwada. In addition, dense fog during early morning hours is expected in several areas.

The national capital Delhi is also witnessing a sharp fall in temperature, with the minimum likely to touch around 6°C. Over the past 24 hours, cold wave conditions were reported in Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, and Odisha.

Officials stated that in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and adjoining hill areas, the minimum temperature dropped below 5°C at several locations. In the northern plains, Faridkot and Gurdaspur in Punjab recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 4.5°C.

IMD has further warned of dense fog from December 9 to 12 in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, while foggy conditions may also affect western Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, and parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Delhi, Haryana and Punjab during morning hours.

Authorities have advised citizens to remain cautious, especially during early morning travel, as cold wave and fog conditions could continue to impact visibility, health, and transport services.
