India News : In a major breakthrough, Indian agencies have arrested nightclub owners Gaurav Luthra and Saurabh Luthra from Thailand in connection with the devastating Goa nightclub fire that claimed 25 lives on December 6. Both brothers, who fled India hours after the incident, are now being brought back to the country as the extradition process begins.
The Ministry of External Affairs is also considering cancelling their passports, following a formal request from the Goa government.
How the Luthra Brothers Fled India
Investigations revealed that while rescue teams were risking their lives to save people trapped inside the burning nightclub, the Luthra brothers were preparing their escape.
Authorities confirmed that the duo booked a flight to Thailand on December 7 at 1:17 AM, just hours after the fire broke out.
Their Bail Plea Rejected in Delhi Court
Before their arrest, the brothers filed for anticipatory bail in a Delhi court. Their lawyer claimed they were not absconding but were on a pre-planned business trip.
He also argued that they were not the direct owners of the club and that day-to-day operations were handled by staff.
However, the court rejected the plea, saying the arguments lacked merit and noting the seriousness of the case.
Blue Corner Notice & Arrest in Thailand
Following the incident, an Interpol Blue Corner Notice was issued.
Intelligence tracking later confirmed that the brothers were hiding in Thailand, leading to their arrest by Indian agencies working with Thai authorities.
Case Will Proceed in Goa
On returning to India, the Luthra brothers will face legal proceedings in Goa.
Meanwhile, Goa Police have already arrested five managers and staff members of the nightclub.
Fire Incident Details
The fire, which erupted shortly after midnight, engulfed the entire club within minutes. Several bodies were found piled on top of each other due to the stampede-like situation.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that a detailed investigation report will be submitted within eight days.
In response to the tragedy, a comprehensive safety audit of all nightclubs, bars and entertainment venues across the state has begun.
