India News : President Droupadi Murmu has given her approval to the Viksit Bharat–Rojgar and Aajeevika Mission (Rural), popularly known as the VB-‘G Ram Ji’ Bill 2025.
With the enactment of this new law, the statutory wage employment guarantee for rural families has been increased to 125 days per financial year, up from the previous 100 days. The government has stated that this law will replace the MGNREGA Act of 2005.
Over the last two decades, India’s rural economy, digital infrastructure, and development needs have evolved significantly. Rather than merely amending the old law, there was a need for a new and modern legal framework. The VB-‘G Ram Ji’ Bill aims not only to provide temporary employment but also to promote sustainable livelihoods, stronger infrastructure, and long-term rural development.
According to the government, the bill focuses on empowerment, inclusive growth, better coordination of development schemes, and wider resource distribution. It is expected to strengthen the rural economy and contribute to the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
By increasing the number of wage employment days, the bill is expected to boost the income of millions of rural families and create local employment opportunities, helping reduce rural-to-urban migration.
With the President’s approval, the VB-‘G Ram Ji’ Bill 2025 is being hailed as a new beginning for rural India and a relief for workers.
