Wolf Snatches Sleeping Child at Night, Mother Chases but Fails to Save Him

India News : A heart-wrenching incident has once again spread fear in Bahraich district, where a wild animal, suspected to be a wolf, snatched a sleeping child from his home in the dead of night. The tragic incident took place around 4 am in Rasoolpur village under the Fakharpur police station area.

According to locals, three-year-old Anshu, son of Ram Manohar, was sleeping beside his mother when a wild animal suddenly entered the house and carried him away. Hearing the child’s cries, the mother woke up and ran behind the animal shouting for help. Neighbours rushed out with sticks and torches and began searching the nearby fields and forested area.

Despite continuous search efforts for over four hours, the child could not be traced. Police and forest department teams reached the spot soon after receiving information and launched a large-scale search operation, but no breakthrough has been reported so far.

The incident has heightened panic in the region, as the nearby Kaiserganj area has witnessed repeated wolf attacks over the past four months. According to official data, at least 11 people, including nine children, have lost their lives in wolf attacks, while nearly three dozen others have been injured. Forest department teams have so far killed six man-eating wolves, but officials suspect one may still be active.

Residents are once again living in fear and questioning when these attacks will stop. Many villagers say they feel helpless, especially since most homes in the area are made of thatch and are not fully secure. Meanwhile, a forest ranger sparked controversy by blaming the victim’s family, saying doors were left open—an explanation locals strongly dispute given the fragile nature of rural housing.

The incident has renewed demands for stronger preventive measures, increased patrolling, and urgent action by the forest department to ensure the safety of villagers, especially children, who continue to live under constant threat.
