BJP Woman Worker Alleges Clothes Torn During Arrest, Police Say She Removed Them Herself

India News : A controversy surrounding the arrest of a woman political worker in Karnataka’s Hubballi has taken a sharp political turn. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the police of assaulting its woman worker and tearing her clothes during her arrest. The police, however, have strongly denied the allegations, claiming that the woman removed her clothes herself and attacked police personnel.

The incident took place in Chalukya Nagar area of Hubballi, where a dispute erupted between local residents and officials over a survey-related issue. The situation escalated into verbal abuse and physical scuffles, prompting the police to register three separate cases, including one for attempt to murder.

On January 5, when police arrived to take the accused woman into custody in connection with the case, a high-voltage drama unfolded.

BJP Levels Serious Allegations

A video circulating on social media shows the woman inside a bus, surrounded by male and female police personnel. The BJP alleged that when the woman resisted arrest, police personnel misbehaved with her, used force, and tore her clothes, calling the incident a violation of women’s dignity.

Police Commissioner Rejects Claims

Hubballi Police Commissioner Shashi Kumar rejected the allegations outright during a press conference on Wednesday. He said the woman violently resisted arrest, bit a sub-inspector, and assaulted other police officers.

According to the commissioner, while being taken in a police vehicle, the woman removed her own clothes as a form of protest. He added that policewomen, with the help of local residents, arranged clothes for her and ensured she was properly dressed.

Police further revealed that the woman has a criminal history, with nine cases registered against her, including five cases filed last year alone.

The incident has triggered a political debate in Karnataka, with both sides sticking firmly to their versions as investigations continue.
