India News : Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations (January 26), India’s security and intelligence agencies have moved into a heightened alert mode. Based on recent intelligence inputs, authorities have been warned about a possible attempt to carry out attacks in Delhi and multiple North Indian states. The alerts indicate that Bangladesh-based extremist groups and pro-Khalistan elements could be trying to coordinate disruptions by targeting key locations in the national capital and other important cities.
Sources also indicate that local criminal networks and gang elements may be used to support such plans—through logistics, supply chains, or facilitating sleeper cells. Agencies are reportedly examining links between organised crime networks in Punjab and neighbouring regions and foreign handlers. In response, security grids across Delhi and surrounding states have been tightened, with intensified checks in crowded markets, transport hubs, and around sensitive government installations.
Given the heightened threat perception, Delhi Police have expanded preparedness measures, including multiple mock drills in sensitive areas such as Red Fort, ISBT Kashmiri Gate, Chandni Chowk, Khari Baoli, and at key metro stations. The drills are aimed at testing response time and improving coordination among security units during an emergency.
Authorities have also urged citizens to remain vigilant and immediately report any unattended objects, suspicious individuals, or unusual activity in public places. Additional deployments, plainclothes surveillance, and enhanced border and perimeter security measures have been put in place to ensure a safe Republic Day period.
