Monsoon Session of Parliament Begins Today, Opposition Demands PM’s Response

India News : The Monsoon Session of the Indian Parliament began today and is scheduled to run until August 21. In preparation for the session, a crucial all-party meeting was held on Sunday at the Parliament House Annexe under the leadership of BJP President and Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha, J.P. Nadda.

The meeting lasted for over 90 minutes and witnessed the participation of senior leaders from both the ruling NDA alliance and opposition parties including the Congress, DMK, TMC, NCP, and others.

Following the meeting, Congress Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, outlined the key issues raised by his party. The Congress demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi respond directly in Parliament on several pressing matters — including Operation Sindoor, alleged US interference in domestic affairs, the intensive voter list revision in Bihar, and the ongoing situation in Manipur.

In response, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju assured that the government is ready to discuss all important topics. However, he emphasized that discussions must take place as per established parliamentary rules and traditions.

Rijiju stated, “There are several crucial issues, and we are open to discussing each one. The government respects the rules of the House and will move forward accordingly. We expect cooperation from all political parties to ensure the session runs smoothly.”

This Monsoon Session is expected to witness the introduction and debate of several key legislations, including the Personal Data Protection Bill, proposals related to population control, and possibly steps toward the Uniform Civil Code.

The session also holds significance as it is the first full session of Parliament after the 2024 General Elections, with several newly elected members participating for the first time. Opposition parties are gearing up to hold the government accountable and demand transparency, especially on sensitive national issues.

Among the most sensitive is the demand for a clear government report on restoration of peace in Manipur, which has been witnessing unrest for over a year.

The tone of the session appears set for robust debate, with the opposition seeking to assert its voice and the government indicating willingness, though within procedural boundaries.
