Bihar News : Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Monday laid the foundation stone for a 20-metric-ton-per-day curd and lassi processing plant, a COMFED-operated HPCL fuel station, and a Sudha Cafeteria at the Biharsharif Dairy Project in Nalanda. He said the expansion of the dairy sector and development of modern dairy infrastructure would pave the way for a new White Revolution, strengthening the foundation of a prosperous and self-reliant Bihar.
Target of 10 Million Litres of Milk Per Day
The Chief Minister said milk production in Bihar has been rising steadily, with the government aiming to increase daily production to 10 million litres. To achieve this, livestock farmers are being provided with modern technology, improved cattle breeds, better training, veterinary healthcare, and enhanced dairy infrastructure.
He said the new curd and lassi plant would add value to dairy products, provide farmers with better market opportunities and fair prices, and boost the rural economy.
Separate Federation for Goat Farming
Samrat Choudhary announced that the state government would establish a separate federation for goat farming to promote the sector. A comprehensive system for the collection, processing, and marketing of goat milk will be developed, benefiting millions of rural families, particularly women engaged in goat rearing.
He also praised members of the Jeevika women’s self-help groups for their contribution to the livestock sector and assured continued government support.
Nalanda to Become a Dairy Processing Hub
The Chief Minister said Nalanda would be developed into Bihar’s leading milk production and dairy processing hub through modern processing units, an expanded cold-chain network, and new dairy projects.
He added that the government is focusing not only on increasing farmers’ incomes but also on improving animal health and welfare. Specialized animal transport vehicles are being introduced to ensure timely medical care for livestock during emergencies.
Veterinary Medicine Centres in Every Block
Samrat Choudhary announced that Prime Minister Animal Jan Aushadhi Centres would be established in every block of the state. Around 1,000 centres will provide livestock owners with affordable and quality veterinary medicines.
He said the government’s vision extends beyond meeting Bihar’s dairy requirements to giving the Sudha dairy brand global recognition by improving quality, adopting modern technology, increasing value addition, and expanding export potential.
2,500 New Dairy Cooperatives Formed
Highlighting the state’s progress, the Chief Minister said Bihar has already formed 2,500 new milk producer cooperatives and is working to open 200 new Sudha retail outlets, with 88 locations already identified.
He also announced plans to develop rural markets on available government land, where milk, vegetables, and fish can be sold directly. Nearly 2,000 new dairy cooperatives have been established in the last six to seven months alone.
Deep Freezers Distributed, Training Programme Launched
During the event, the Chief Minister distributed deep freezers to 300 retailers, flagged off animal transport vehicles, and launched a training programme for dairy farmers. He also inspected the Sudha Dairy Plant in Biharsharif.
The programme was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Finance Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar, Dairy, Fisheries and Animal Resources Department Secretary Nand Kishore Ram, public representatives, government officials, dairy farmers, and members of cooperative societies.
