Bihar News : The Bagmati River has crossed the danger mark in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district, raising concerns over possible flooding in low-lying areas. According to the latest data released by the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, the river’s water level at Kataujha was recorded at 55.75 metres, which is 0.75 metres above the danger level of 55.00 metres. Officials said the water level continues to rise, increasing the risk of flooding.
Alert Issued for Aurai, Katra and Gaighat
With the Bagmati River swelling steadily, the district administration has issued an alert for residents living in the low-lying areas of Aurai, Katra, and Gaighat blocks. Authorities warned that floodwaters could inundate villages, causing damage to homes, roads, and agricultural fields. Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and move to safer locations if required.
Situation Stable at Sikandarpur and Rewaghat
While the Bagmati River remains a cause for concern, the situation along the Budhi Gandak and Gandak rivers is currently under control.
At Sikandarpur, the water level of the Budhi Gandak River was recorded at 48.46 metres, well below its danger mark of 52.53 metres. Similarly, at Rewaghat, the Gandak River stood at 52.89 metres, below its danger level of 54.41 metres. Officials said water levels at both locations are showing a declining trend.
Administration on Alert
The District Flood Control Cell and engineers from the Water Resources Department are closely monitoring the situation. Authorities have directed officials to intensify surveillance of embankments and ensure that relief and rescue teams remain prepared in vulnerable areas to respond promptly if flood conditions worsen.
The district administration has appealed to residents in flood-prone areas to follow official advisories and avoid venturing into inundated or vulnerable locations.
