Bihar News : Cricket enthusiasts in Bihar may soon no longer have to travel to other states to watch top-level matches. The Rajgir International Cricket Stadium in Nalanda is nearing completion, with the Bihar government targeting its inauguration and the first cricket match in December 2026.
Once operational, the stadium is expected to host national and international cricket matches, giving fans an opportunity to watch top players in action on home soil.
Construction Nearing Completion
The construction of the international-standard stadium has entered its final phase. The Sports Department has directed the executing agencies to complete the remaining work within the stipulated timeline so that the venue is ready by December 2026.
40,000-Seat Main Pavilion Ready
The stadium’s biggest attraction is its main pavilion with a seating capacity of 40,000 spectators, which has already been completed. Construction of the remaining three spectator stands is progressing rapidly.
Bihar’s Cricketers Could Play on Home Ground
Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh said the Rajgir International Cricket Stadium is not just a sports facility but a symbol of Bihar’s growing sports infrastructure. She said the stadium will provide a world-class platform for players from the state and strengthen Bihar’s identity as an emerging sporting destination.
The venue is expected to host matches featuring Bihar’s prominent cricketers, including Ishan Kishan, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Akash Deep, and Mukesh Kumar, along with other national and international players.
World-Class Facilities
Spread across nearly 90 acres, the stadium is being developed at an estimated cost of ₹633 crore and is being built according to international standards.
Key facilities include:
- Modern floodlights
- High-tech electronic scoreboard
- Corporate boxes
- VIP gallery
- Media centre
- State-of-the-art dressing rooms
- Dedicated practice pitches
- Advanced drainage system
Special red soil has been used for the main wicket, while black soil has been used for the practice pitches to provide playing conditions that meet international standards.
A Major Boost for Bihar Sports
Officials believe the stadium will become a landmark for sports development in Bihar. Besides hosting domestic and international cricket events, it is expected to provide local players with access to world-class training and competition without leaving the state.
The project is also expected to boost sports tourism, create local employment opportunities, and strengthen Bihar’s sports economy.
The cricket stadium is part of the larger Rajgir Sports Complex, which already features modern infrastructure for hockey, athletics, swimming, shooting, kabaddi, wrestling, and several other sports.
