Woman Climbs 132 kV High-Tension Power Tower After Family Dispute; Timely Police Intervention Averts Tragedy

Bihar News : Panic gripped Saripatti Chewar village in Bhagwanpur Hat block of Siwan district on Wednesday morning after a 25-year-old married woman climbed a 132 kV (132,000-volt) high-tension electricity transmission tower following an alleged family dispute.

A large number of local residents gathered at the spot after learning about the incident. Responding to the emergency, the Dial-112 police team, with the assistance of villagers, managed to safely bring the woman down after prolonged efforts, preventing what could have been a major tragedy.

Woman Identified as Mother of Two

According to police, the woman has been identified as Murat Devi, daughter of the late Bigan Manjhi and a resident of Sahsaraw village in Bhagwanpur Hat block. She was married in 2019 to Deepak Manjhi, a resident of Sirsa village in Baikunthpur police station area of Gopalganj district.

The couple has two sons—five-year-old Uttam Kumar and three-year-old Manikant.

Family Dispute Allegedly Led to the Incident

Deepak Manjhi, who works as a mason in Maharashtra, alleged that during his absence his wife had previously left home on two occasions. He claimed that disputes over personal family matters had continued for some time.

The woman had recently come to Bhagwanpur Hat to stay with relatives. On Wednesday morning, she climbed the high-voltage transmission tower, leading to panic in the area.

Villagers and Police Prevent Major Mishap

Eyewitnesses said the situation became extremely tense as there were fears that if the woman climbed any higher or came into contact with the live transmission lines, it could have resulted in a fatal accident.

Local residents tried to persuade her to come down. After reaching the spot, the Dial-112 police team spoke to her patiently and, following sustained efforts, safely rescued her.

Investigation Underway

Following the incident, police took the woman, her husband, and their two children to the police station. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine the exact cause of the episode.

The police have not announced any further action, and the investigation is ongoing.
