Bihar News : The Election Commission of India (ECI) will launch its nationwide Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) 2.0 campaign from Gyan Bhawan, Patna, on August 16 and 17. The two-day programme will be inaugurated by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The initiative aims to engage young people, especially first-time voters, and encourage greater participation in the democratic process.
Focus on Electoral Awareness
The Election Commission said the campaign is not only intended to register young voters but also to educate them about the importance of voting, the functioning of EVMs and VVPATs, voter rights, and the overall electoral process. The objective is to strengthen informed and responsible democratic participation.
More Than 5,000 Students to Participate
Over 5,000 students from more than 500 schools, colleges, and universities across Bihar are expected to participate in the campaign. They will receive special training on electoral literacy and democratic values.
Electoral Literacy Clubs in Educational Institutions
Under the ELC 2.0 initiative, Electoral Literacy Clubs will be established in educational institutions. Throughout the year, these clubs will organise debates, quizzes, mock elections, awareness drives, and other interactive activities to promote democratic engagement among students.
Digital Registration Through ECINet
All clubs will be registered online through the ECINet platform. Each club will receive a unique identification number, enabling digital monitoring of activities as well as the issuance of certificates and awards.
Combating Misinformation
The Commission said the initiative also aims to equip young people with the ability to identify misinformation, fake news, and misleading narratives by providing them with factual and reliable information.
According to the Election Commission, the campaign is expected to help develop a generation of well-informed, responsible citizens who understand democratic values and actively participate in the electoral process.
