Patna Nehru Path to Be Widened from Dak Bungalow to Rukanpura
  • Patna’s Nehru Path from Dak Bungalow Chowk to Rukanpura will be widened at a cost of ₹39.80 crore, with an additional lane planned to improve traffic movement.

Bihar News : The Nehru Path (Bailey Road) from Dak Bungalow Chowk to Rukanpura will be widened as part of an initiative by the Road Construction Department (RCD) to improve traffic movement and reduce congestion in the capital. The project will cost ₹39.80 crore and is targeted for completion within nine months, including the monsoon period.

The New Capital Road Division of the Road Construction Department has already issued the tender for the project. The widening is expected to improve traffic flow on one of Patna’s major and busiest roads.

Metro Construction Increases Pressure on Road

Large-scale metro construction is currently underway along Nehru Path, with a significant portion of the road affected by the work. The widening project is being planned with this situation in mind to ensure smoother traffic movement.

Executive Engineer Er. Abhishek Kumar of the New Capital Road Division said the existing width of Nehru Path varies from around 20 metres to 40-45 metres at different stretches.

Additional Lane Planned on Government Land

Under the plan, an additional lane measuring at least 3 to 3.5 metres will be created on both sides wherever government land is available.

No government or private buildings will be demolished for the widening work. Instead, boundary walls of existing premises will be shifted back wherever required to create additional space.

Kotwali Police Station and Maurya Lok Boundaries May Be Shifted

The department is considering shifting the boundary walls of Kotwali Police Station and Maurya Lok Complex, along with those of other government institutions.

However, the road will not be widened in stretches where private or raiyati land is involved. The focus will remain on using available government land for the expansion.

Metro-Affected Areas to Be Excluded

A road-widening proposal was also considered near Niyojan Bhawan. However, metro construction is currently underway in that area.

Therefore, the widening work will move forward only in available stretches outside the metro-affected areas. Further proceedings will begin after the department gives final approval.
