Bihar News : Drinking water infrastructure in Danapur city and nearby residential areas is set to be strengthened after the Danapur Water Supply Scheme received approval under the Central government’s AMRUT 2.0 programme.
The project will be implemented at a cost of ₹93.56 crore and aims to provide clean tap water to more than 5,877 households. The Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (BUIDCO) has been given responsibility for executing the project.
Project to Be Completed in One Year
The project is expected to be completed within one year, and tenders have already been issued for the work.
After construction is completed, the selected agency will be responsible for operating and maintaining the scheme for five years.
63-Km Pipeline Network Planned
Under the project, a 63-kilometre pipeline network will be laid across the Danapur municipal area and nearby residential localities. The network will include rising mains and a distribution system.
The project will also connect densely populated and newly developed areas of Danapur to the water supply network. Areas that currently do not have pipeline facilities will also be covered under the scheme.
New Water Storage Facilities to Be Developed
Overhead water storage facilities with a combined capacity of 2,526 kilolitres will be developed to store water and ensure supply at adequate pressure across different areas.
The storage infrastructure is expected to help deliver water to the farthest parts of the network. The project also includes renovation work for old pumping stations and water bodies.
Target of 135 Litres Per Person Per Day
The scheme has set a target of providing 135 litres of water per person per day. Tap connections will be provided to deliver water directly to households.
The project is expected to reduce dependence on hand pumps and groundwater. A modern water treatment plant system has also been included to help maintain water quality and ensure the supply of filtered and clean water.
Water Meters and Control Valves Also Included
Water meters and control valves will also be installed as part of the project. The meters will help monitor water consumption, while control valves will regulate the flow of water according to requirements.
The infrastructure is expected to help reduce water wastage and support a more uniform supply to households. The AMRUT 2.0 project is aimed at modernising and strengthening Danapur’s drinking water system.
Once completed, the scheme is expected to improve access to regular and quality drinking water for residents of the city and surrounding areas.
