Offbeat News : Bollywood actor Kriti Sanon recently faced controversy over a Raksha Bandhan advertisement for a jewellery brand, with some social media users criticising her outfit as inappropriate for a traditional festival. As the controversy grew, the brand removed the campaign from all its digital platforms and issued an apology.
Kriti appeared in the advertisement wearing an off-white Indo-Western outfit featuring a bralette-style blouse, draped skirt and cape. Soon after the campaign was released, the advertisement triggered mixed reactions and became a subject of debate on social media.
Kriti Sanon Responds to Criticism Over Her Outfit
Amid the controversy, Kriti Sanon shared an emotional post on her Instagram account on August 25. She said that the true beauty of any festival does not lie only in clothing but in the emotions, traditions and relationships associated with it.
Describing Raksha Bandhan as a symbol of love and protection, Kriti said the importance of the festival lies in the emotions shared in the bond between brothers and sisters. She also referred to her pet dogs as members of her family and spoke about the feelings of protection and care associated with them.
Actor Questions Society’s View on Women’s Clothing
Kriti also questioned the way society views women’s clothing. She said women should not constantly be told what they should wear.
According to Kriti, Indian and ethnic fashion has changed significantly over time, but women’s respect for culture and traditions is still often judged by their clothes. She stated that a woman’s culture does not lie in the neckline of her clothing but in her heart and thoughts.
Her comments were seen as a response to the criticism surrounding the Raksha Bandhan advertisement.
Jewellery Brand Removes Campaign and Issues Apology
As the controversy continued, the jewellery brand decided on Wednesday to remove the advertisement from all its digital platforms.
In a statement posted on Instagram, the brand said it respects Indian culture, traditions and festivals. According to the statement, the campaign aimed to portray pets as part of family celebrations.
However, the brand expressed regret if the campaign had hurt the sentiments of any section of society.
Kangana Ranaut’s Comment Adds to the Debate
The debate intensified further after actor Kangana Ranaut made a sarcastic social media comment without naming Kriti Sanon directly.
Kangana questioned why such an outfit was chosen for an occasion like Raksha Bandhan despite having many other clothing options. She also said that women have a wide variety of clothes in their wardrobes and questioned the choice of attire for the festival.
The controversy has once again sparked discussion around women’s clothing, their portrayal in advertisements and the debate between modern fashion and traditional expectations.
While one section considers festival-appropriate clothing important, another supports personal choice and freedom of expression. The controversy has also raised questions about whether a woman’s clothing should be used to judge her thoughts, culture or values.
