The mock drill simulated an emergency involving a chemical release of hydrochloric acid (HCl) in the DM Plant’s bulk storage/acid tank area. The exercise commenced at 11:53 am and was successfully concluded at 12:25 pm after completing the prescribed safety procedures and emergency response activities.

As part of the exercise, a scenario involving a person coming into contact with the chemical was also simulated. The individual was provided immediate first aid and subsequently shifted to Patratu Hospital for necessary medical assistance. After receiving treatment, the person was discharged from the hospital.

Personnel from CISF and PVUNL actively participated in the mock drill. The concerned teams practised various emergency response measures, including safe evacuation, medical assistance, emergency coordination and communication procedures.

The exercise was aimed at ensuring a swift and effective response to chemical emergencies, enhancing safety awareness among employees and strengthening coordination among different agencies involved in emergency management.

PVUNL management reiterated that safety remains the organisation’s top priority. Regular mock drills are conducted to assess, test and further strengthen preparedness for handling potential emergency situations at the plant.
