West Singhbhum: A land dispute allegedly led to the killing of a younger brother in the Bodra Chowk area under Muffasil police station limits in West Singhbhum district, Jharkhand, on Monday. The deceased, identified as 36-year-old Rakesh Kalundia, reportedly died after his elder brother, Anil Kalundia, allegedly struck him on the head with an iron rod during an argument over the division of family property.
Police detained Anil Kalundia following the incident. An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
Dispute Over Division of Family Land
According to family members, a dispute over the division of land had been ongoing in the Kalundia family for several days.
On Monday, the four brothers and their mother reportedly sat together to discuss the matter and resolve the disagreement. During the discussion, an argument allegedly broke out between Rakesh and his elder brother Anil.
The disagreement reportedly escalated, and Anil allegedly attacked Rakesh on the head with an iron rod. Rakesh suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.
Family Members Describe Earlier Disagreements
The deceased’s brother Ganesh Kalundia and sister-in-law Sushanti Kalundia said Anil was the eldest of the four brothers, while Rakesh was the youngest. They also stated that the two brothers had argued with each other on previous occasions.
Family members further alleged that Rakesh struggled with alcohol or substance use and frequently became involved in physical altercations. However, they identified the land-sharing dispute as the main issue behind Monday’s incident.
The exact circumstances and sequence of events are being examined by the police.
Police Detain Suspect, Investigation Underway
After receiving information about the incident, Muffasil Police Station Officer-in-Charge Vinod Kumar reached the spot with a police team.
The police completed the necessary procedures relating to the body and detained Anil Kalundia. Investigators are examining the events leading to the alleged attack and the circumstances of Rakesh’s death.
The incident has plunged the family into mourning.
