Supaul: To address the growing problem of plastic waste in rural areas and promote environmental conservation, the district administration has accelerated its plastic waste management processes. As part of this initiative, Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC) Indraveer Kumar inspected the Plastic Waste Management Unit located in the Kishunpur block on Tuesday. During the visit, he assessed the operations at the unit and reviewed the progress of waste management efforts.
It was reported that waste—including plastic—is being collected from villages through various waste management units across Supaul district. The collected plastic waste is transported to designated Plastic Waste Management Units, where it undergoes processing and proper disposal.
During the inspection, the DDC noted that the prevalence and use of plastic materials in rural areas have increased significantly. Consequently, the scientific management of plastic waste has become essential for environmental protection. He suggested that plastic bottles and other plastic waste could be effectively repurposed for road construction, ensuring both proper waste disposal and a practical application for the material.
In this regard, a meeting was held with engineers and contractors from the Rural Works Department, where instructions were issued concerning the use of plastic in road construction. The engineers and contractors expressed their support for the initiative and committed to proceeding in accordance with the district administration’s directives.
The DDC explained that plastic waste is being shredded into small, specific-sized pieces suitable for use in road construction. This processing is currently underway at the Plastic Waste Management Unit. He instructed the relevant staff to maximize the volume of plastic waste processed for road construction purposes, ensuring it can be utilized in building roads as soon as possible.
Also present during the inspection were Director Ashutosh Kumar, Kishunpur Block Development Officer (BDO) Pinky Kumari, the sanitation supervisor, and other officials and personnel from the sanitation department.
