Hearing on Government and JSSC Appeal in Teacher Recruitment Case Set for December 16

Jharkhand HC Rules: In Rural Areas, Panchayat Powers Override JRDA

Ranchi: A partial hearing took place on Wednesday at the Jharkhand High Court regarding an appeal (LPA) filed by the state government and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) in the case of Meena Kumari, which pertains to the 2016 Combined Graduate Trained Teacher Competitive Examination. The matter was heard by a division bench presided over by Chief Justice MS Sonak.

The court has ordered that the hearing for the related contempt petition remain stayed until further notice. Advocate Sanjay Piprawall appeared on behalf of the JSSC, while Advocate Shekhar Prasad Gupta and others represented the petitioners.

It is noteworthy that during a previous hearing, advocates Shekhar Prasad Gupta and Amritansh Vats, representing the petitioners, informed the court that out of 17,786 vacancies advertised by the government for this recruitment, only 12,046 positions had been filled.

Based on the petitioners’ submissions, a single-judge bench of the High Court had previously directed the recruitment of 2,034 additional candidates who were found to be qualified and met all the necessary eligibility criteria. Meanwhile, the JSSC argued before the court that the government had conducted the recruitment process in accordance with the Supreme Court’s directives, and contended that the single-judge bench’s order was contrary to the Supreme Court’s ruling.
