Palamu: The case involving the suspicious death of a 20-year-old woman in Mohammadabad village, under the jurisdiction of the Hussainabad police station in Palamu district, has taken a new turn. The deceased’s sister has leveled serious allegations against their father and stepmother, claiming they subjected the victim to persistent physical assault and mental harassment.
Acting on the complaint, the police arrested both named accused on Thursday. The incident has sent shockwaves through the village.
The deceased has been identified as Afsana Parveen. Her sister, Ajmeri Bibi, filed a written complaint at the Hussainabad police station on November 4, stating that Afsana was consistently mistreated by her father, Rahuf Ansari, and her stepmother, Juhi Parveen. It is alleged that she was also subjected to physical violence at home.
According to the complaint, at approximately 11:00 PM on November 3, Afsana called her sister to inform her about the abuse and violence taking place at home. Distraught by the mistreatment, she spoke of taking her own life. The deceased had also communicated her suffering to her brother-in-law via a mobile message. The news of her death the following day left her family and the villagers in deep mourning. Following the incident, the victim’s sister demanded police action against the father and stepmother.
Divyansh Shukla, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Hussainabad, stated on Thursday that based on the written complaint, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered at the Hussainabad police station (Case No. 223/26) under Sections 108 and 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police initiated an investigation and, acting swiftly, arrested both of the accused. The arrested individuals are 50-year-old Rahuf Ansari—a resident of Mohammadabad—and his 35-year-old wife, Juhi Parveen. The police are gathering further necessary evidence and initiating subsequent legal action in the case.
The Palamu Police have urged the public to take incidents involving family disputes, domestic violence, and mental harassment seriously. If an individual expresses an intent to commit suicide, do not leave them alone; instead, inform the police immediately.
Afsana’s death has raised serious questions regarding the harassment that can occur within a family and the urgent need for timely intervention. The police have stated that further legal action will be taken based on the facts and evidence gathered in the case.
