More News : OpenAI CEO Sam Altman believes that artificial intelligence will play a major role in helping people have more children and raise them in the future. Calling declining birth rates one of the world’s biggest problems, Altman said that building families and communities should become a top priority in the coming years.
Altman, who became a father this year, described parenthood as an incredible experience and encouraged more people to embrace it. He argued that Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) could transform social structures by giving people more time, resources, and capabilities—making child-rearing easier and providing families with stronger support systems.
“In a world after AGI, families and communities will become far more important,” Altman remarked. He also admitted that during the first few weeks of fatherhood, he often turned to ChatGPT for advice. In his view, childcare itself could become a practical example of AI’s usefulness.
In a lighter tone, Altman joked that while his children may never outsmart AI, they will surely be more capable than us and better at using technology.
Altman’s comments reflect a broader sentiment in Silicon Valley promoting family growth. xAI founder Elon Musk has also repeatedly voiced concern over declining birth rates. Musk, a father of several children, warned in 2022 that population decline is the “biggest threat to civilization,” joking that he is doing his best to solve the crisis.
