In an official statement, Air India confirmed that the aircraft was safely taxied to the designated area, and all passengers and crew members disembarked safely. The airline emphasized that passenger safety remains its top priority.
An Air India spokesperson explained, “Due to heavy rainfall, the runway was slippery, which caused the aircraft to skid slightly after landing. However, the pilot managed to bring the situation under control and the aircraft was safely brought to the gate. All passengers are safe, and no injuries have been reported.”
Following the incident, the aircraft was grounded immediately and a technical inspection is underway to assess the condition of the plane and the cause of the tire bursts.
The incident briefly disrupted flight operations at Mumbai Airport, causing minor delays, but normalcy was restored shortly after.
This event highlights the challenges faced by airlines while operating in adverse weather conditions. The fact that a serious accident was avoided is being attributed to the pilot’s training, calm response, and professional handling of the emergency.
So far, no complaints have been received from the passengers, and Air India is cooperating fully with the airport authorities for further inspection. The airline has reiterated its commitment to the safety and well-being of its passengers and crew.
As monsoon intensifies across Mumbai, aviation authorities are expected to review safety protocols and landing procedures during extreme weather conditions to ensure such incidents don’t repeat.
